What kind of music do unborn babies prefer?
One of the frequent tips that give pregnant women – to listen to classical music , it is believed that in this way the child develops better. Researchers from the Institut Marquès Institute – a Spanish clinic specializing in the treatment of infertility – decided to find out which music stimulates the speech centers of the brain best. They suggested that such stimulation would be manifested in the form of movements of the mouth and language of future children, and estimated the intensity of the corresponding reaction to several compositions lost intravaginally (it is difficult to fully perceive the music “outside” to the child because of various external noises).
Each of the toddlers (the gestation period was 18 to 38 weeks) included 15 songs: from Bach and Beethoven sonatas to traditional Spanish Christmas songs and Queen and Adele hits. Behind movements were followed by ultrasound. In general, the classics caused a brighter reaction than pop or rock tunes. 91% of children reacted to Mozart, more than 80% – to Bach, Prokofiev and Strauss, as well as traditional African drums, Indian mantras and Christmas songs. Queen “liked” 90% of listeners, and Adele and Shakira – no more than 60%. Interestingly, the future babies reacted more intensely to the voice of Mickey Mouse than to ordinary human speech. However, since usually children inside the womb do not hear music very often, almost any songs provoke movement. The authors of the study believe, deafness in unborn children.
