Intel offers a walk through the festival of The Burning Man in virtual reality
Despite the fact that tens of millions of people visit the largest Smithsonian Museum of American Art in Washington every year, for many it remains inaccessible. That’s why the management of the museum together with Intel decided to speed up the work on digitizing its collection of 157 million exhibits.
The first project of this program gives visitors the opportunity to make a virtual tour at the site of the annual festival of contemporary art Burning Man, which is held in the desert of Black Rock, Nevada.
In the Renvik Gallery of the Smithsonian Museum, visitors wearing a VR headset will be able to visit the virtual desert of Black Rock. After that, after returning to the real world, they will be able to see everything from sculptures and paintings to various decorations and costumes used at a real Burning Man festival. The exhibition will run until January 21, 2019.
