Ida Pfeiffer is designed to conquer the polar latitudes with maximum comfort
Traveling to the North Pole turns from an exotic adventure into ordinary voyages for wealthy tourists, and therefore the shipbuilding industry is developing a new type of ships: polar yachts. Globe Regal Yachting together with Gill Schmid Designs and Dörries Yachts developed the project of the super yacht Ida Pfeiffer. This is an analogue of a 5-star hotel in the format of a ship for swimming in ice.
The Ida Pfeiffer polar yacht has a length of 70 m and a displacement of 1500 tonnes with a draft of only 3.75 m, which allows it to pass through shallow water and not get stuck in ice hummocks. Power plant diesel-electric, autonomous range of navigation reaches 11,000 km, but the cruising speed is kept secret. The ship received a high icebreaking nose, but to what ice class it belongs – is unknown.
The crew of the polar yacht is 15 people, it can take on board 14 passengers, to whose services 7 guest cabins, plus the owner’s apartment. The layout is such that the guests practically do not collide with the crew, they will even move between the decks along different staircases. And to get into the technical rooms, will have to try.
On board Ida Pfeiffer has its own mini-submarine “Triton”, two land vehicles, cranes for their unloading on ice, as well as a site for a helicopter with a fast-mounted hangar against the weather. The vessel can be used for excursions, cruises or commercial operations in the polar waters. It is built to order and the price is kept secret.
