At the international motor show in Geneva, which is taking place these days, Goodyear presented an unusual concept of the Oxygene automobile tire, which collects energy through photosynthesis. Previously, the company had already offered ideas for innovative tires capable of converting heat and motion into electric current, spherical tires that allowed to move in the side, and even one version equipped with artificial intelligence.
Oxygene will use Li-Fi technology (Light Fidelity, optical technology of wireless data transmission) to connect to the Internet of things. The tire will “breathe” CO 2 from the air and roadside moisture, fueling the moss, located in the side walls, and that, in turn – “exhale” the oxygen in the atmosphere.
In addition, the bus in the process of photosynthesis captures energy and uses it to power its electronic devices – airborne sensors, a safety indicator and an artificial intelligence processing unit. The rest of the received energy Oxygene will use Li-Fi to connect to the Internet Things to communicate with other cars and road infrastructure. The protector will be printed on a 3D printer using rubber powder from recycled tires.
According to calculations by Goodyear, in a city the size of Paris, with 2.5 million cars with Oxygene tires, it will be possible to produce 3000 tons of oxygen from 4000 tons of processed CO 2 per year .
Undoubtedly, we are talking about a revolutionary concept, and if it can be implemented, air in megacities will become much cleaner in the near future.
