Castor oil for skin and hair: how and why to use it
You have not yet appreciated the benefits of castor oil to care for everything (in terms of beauty, of course), what will happen to your arm? Or maybe you have long put it on your eyebrows, eyelashes and even hair tips, because you know that in the right dosages it can do wonders? Whatever it was, you will be interested to know that castor oil can and should be used also for skin care. Including – to solve various kinds of dermatological problems .
Squeezed from the seeds of the plant Ricinus Communis (castor oil), castor oil is a darker and more fragrant substance than, say, argan or coconut oil. But its dense texture indicates that it contains more vitamin E and fatty acids than most vegetable oils – and that’s only to our advantage if we’re talking about beauty-routine. There are four good reasons in this material, why you should try castor oil in care, if you have not done so yet.
Prepare to hear something incredible: castor oil can be your ally in the fight against the first signs of aging without innovative serums and rejuvenating injections . “Castor oil penetrates well into the dermis, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, which makes the skin smoother and more elastic,” explains Byrdie, an expert in natural cosmetics Katie Pande.
As we all know, collagen and elastin stores in the skin are depleted with age, and most quickly it occurs in the thinnest areas ( around the eyes , mouth and forehead, where wrinkles usually appear earlier). To prevent this, Pande suggests immersing the cotton pad into castor oil, and then gently tracing it over the face, as if you are applying not an oil but a tonic, before going to bed.
Acceleration of hair growth
Castor oil, researchers believe, really helps to accelerate the growth of hair, which makes it the ideal home serum for eyelashes and eyebrows. There are two theories as to why this happens: the first – ricinoleic acid in oil inhibits hormones associated with hair loss and alopecia , the second – the powerful moisturizing properties of castor oil strengthen hair bulbs, and the vitamin complex in its composition stimulates blood circulation. “For the care of eyelashes, I recommend not just applying oil to them, but also using it as a means to remove make-up from the eyes, in order to enhance the effect,” adds Katie Pande.
In addition to increasing the level of collagen and accelerating hair growth, castor oil is well known for its medicinal properties against eczema, dermatitis, rosacea , psoriasis and phyllic keratosis. How it works? Rich in antibacterial and anti-inflammatory ricinoleic acid, castor oil has the advantage of double-acting care. So, it moisturizes the skin, but it also fights bacteria, which allows you to cope with the cyclical nature of itching and irritation. Apply it at the same time better point to the inflamed areas, and also – it’s important! – before application, if it is a question of serious problems with a skin, it is necessary to consult with the dermatologist.
And no split ends
Packed with omega-6 fatty acids, reducing amino acids and nutritious vitamin E, castor oil is an excellent tool for maintaining health and beauty of hair. “If the problem of split ends is familiar to you, try applying a quantity of oil the size of a small coin in the palm of your hand, warming it up in your hands and applying it to the tips,” advises Katie Pande. – And for an ideal repair mask, combine castor oil with coconut oil , apply to the hair along the entire length and leave it overnight. The result, I guarantee, you will be pleasantly surprised. ”
