About patients with Alzheimer’s disease will be taken care of by robots
Alzheimer’s disease is a difficult test not only for the patients themselves, but also for the people who take care of them. To at least ease this burden, teams of scientists around the world are exploring how to automate at least part of the care. Robots in this disease can be used in many ways – for example, technology has already advanced enough to create devices that help patients feel less alone. Such a robot is designed in the form of a young seal Paro – he makes a sick company, replacing them with a pet, for which they could not fully attend. Other robots (such as South Korea’s Silbot13) can help get out of bed or lie down in it, remind about taking a pill, assess the mood of the patient, if necessary send a message to his relatives.
Another robot was tested in Ireland. MARIO was made as a companion. Its main task is to support social inclusionhis ward. Among the applications that the device offers patients, not only gaming, news and music programs, but also more specific developments. This, for example, is an application that shows the patient photos from his past (at this time, the robot tells you what is depicted on them). Another application collects information from specified social networks to keep the patient informed of what is happening in his family. Important calendar dates are marked in the calendar application. Tests in hospitals and institutions caring for patients have been successful. The scientists explained that the relatives of the sick need rest – this will preserve their health and help them feel more happy.
